Was it actually that crazy? My fragile mind can't handle direct exposure right now, but if you've seen it I'm eager to hear about it

[-] drathvedro@lemm.ee 33 points 8 months ago

Yes. Putin is famous for dodging questions by rambling about random shit, but this time he really outdid himself by starting rambling not even a minute into the "interview" and going on for 2 hours straight.

[-] Gradually_Adjusting@lemmy.world 9 points 8 months ago

So basically it was an evil version of Harmontown

[-] Jtee@lemmy.world 21 points 8 months ago

I saw a clip and it just looks and feels like Russian propaganda

[-] considine@lemmy.ml 7 points 8 months ago

As long as you get that feeling, then no need to evaluate the content of things. We have teams of people to do that. Then they tell you what context cues to look for instead of evaluating it yourself.

[-] steakmeout@lemmy.world 16 points 8 months ago

What else would it be? Why the fuck would Putin sit down with anyone in an interview if not to propagandise?

[-] sukhmel@programming.dev 4 points 8 months ago

To feel like an important political figure?

This whole set up looked like a vanity show, tbh

[-] narwhal@mander.xyz 12 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

Don't listen to them. First thing putin asked was "do you want a talk show or a serious conversation?" You don't need to agree with him but the whole interview was a reasonable and civilized attempt to show the russian perspective to western audiences.

[-] Feathercrown@lemmy.world 50 points 8 months ago

And you're just going to believe Putin at face value?

[-] summerof69@lemm.ee 12 points 8 months ago

I believe that he believes in what he's saying. He's been talking and writing articles about this for years. He's that out of touch with reality. Remember, he doesn't even use internet.

[-] narwhal@mander.xyz 10 points 8 months ago

I'm gonna listen to what he has to say and make up my mind.

[-] lolcatnip@reddthat.com 40 points 8 months ago

What he has to say is that Ukraine should be destroyed and ethnically cleansed. Why on earth would you want to hear more of what he has to say?

[-] Tyfud@lemmy.world 26 points 8 months ago

Nah.

You don't need to do that with someone like Putin. You're basically saying you're cool just listening to this generations Hitler and taking him at face value.

That makes you an idiot, a piece of shit, a Russian sympathizer/asset, or likely, all three. But you're definitely not a person who should be listened to or followed in any way. The entire point of your posting that is to try and create the illusion that Russia isn't the bad guy here.

So, and I mean this sincerely, go fuck yourself.

[-] narwhal@mander.xyz 5 points 8 months ago

You accuse someone of all sorts of things, and never give them a fair chance to defend themselves through dialog. Tell me again how this is a fair aproach. Sounds like you just want to shut down someone for fear of them being right and you wrong.

[-] Fades@lemmy.world 26 points 8 months ago

Putin is the invader if he leaves the war ends. What more do you need to hear from the guy

[-] Benaaasaaas@lemmy.world 43 points 8 months ago

Except for the fact that he's making a lot of shit up, I'm from eastern europe and none of his stories about Poland, Lithuania and Kievan Rus were accurate at all.

[-] DragonTypeWyvern@literature.cafe 33 points 8 months ago

Even if they were true, his point is that "we used to own Ukraine so we're going to kill people until we do again"

You know, like fascists do.

[-] hannes3120@feddit.de 8 points 8 months ago

Also Wonder if he lost a word about the Kievan Rus' which would give Ukraine a stronger claim on russian territory than what Russia claims for Ukraine belonging to it. Not that you should go there but that whole line of arguing doesn't even work for itself

[-] sukhmel@programming.dev 5 points 8 months ago

Of course he did not. That's why they removed the word Kievan from that term in History textbooks, it's now just Rus, no Kiev

[-] AstralPath@lemmy.ca 24 points 8 months ago
