It's worse than that. If we degrowthed and decarbonized fast enough to stop global warming, billons of people will die. If we continue to do nothing or weak sauce half measures to stop global warming, billions of people will die.
We are fucked either way now.
There is zero evidence that fixing things will kill anything other than billionaire profits.

False optimism is as toxic as unjustified defeatism. Be realistic.
Being realistic would be pessimistic in this case.
The science clearly says we're already fucked. We'd not only have to reach zero emissions but actively start removing previous emissions from the atmosphere.
Afaik no one's even trying on the second part.
