Smart tech in general is annoying and dumb. I want my TV to just be a tv with inputs, I don't need built in firmware and updates to shove ads in my face. I don't want my car to have a touch screen to adjust the A/C, just give me a knob or buttons.

Every time I look at reddit or twitter they're designed to be filled with the most vile or annoying posts imaginable to keep you scrolling and this place just... doesn't have that. It's relieving to not be inherently angry just scrolling through new posts

I haven't tried a search engine with built in AI before but at the moment I just don't really care. Google works for me well enough and Chat GPT i just use to outline college essays

I've been learning to hate reddit over the past few years between:

-its awful redesign

-it's focus on more social media aspects like group chats, friend lists, follower count.

-Shutting down third party apps

-NFTs

-WAY too many ads

Basically everything that an alternative like lemmy solves

yea I fully agree! It seems quite nice so far

yup! I think the main dev makes so many changes that he's one of the top github users. No idea how to check that though I only heard it from a friend a while back haha

People are a lot more likely to promote their own products if they're allowed to than to promote someone else's work, and it quickly becomes spammy of people talking about their own "superior" projects. I fully agree that this is great though, but I get where christain was coming from removing it from his post

I can't imagine anyone other than tech bros actually using this in any scenario

The original app always felt excessively cluttered and changed too much for the sake of changing. Moving here feels way better than supporting whatever the official reddit app decides to break today
