It would have been great if it was with Putin inside.

[-] mooncake@lemm.ee 172 points 1 week ago

Damn you'd be banned on Reddit for saying that!

[-] LordWiggle@lemmy.world 92 points 1 week ago

Only if I'd wish if Musk would be in it right? Since it's a limo, it would have been great if Putin, Trump, Vance and Musk would be in it.

[-] werefreeatlast@lemmy.world 16 points 1 week ago

Let's rebuild the Titan sub and restart important exploration trips to the Titanic! That's a great idea for the uber rich! We all want to know what happened to the Titanic in great details. I have a super Nintendo knockoff controller they can use this time around. Also make it out of aluminum and do high pressure oxygen tests with the crew inside. I hear those are fun events.

[-] polite_cat@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago

Just put Putin, Trump, Vance and Musk in a Cybertruck, it will explode on its own probably

[-] LordWiggle@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago

Honestly, I don't care how dude. As long as they are removed from society ASAP.

[-] Sauerkraut@discuss.tchncs.de 34 points 1 week ago

Too true. I was just banned on Reddit for liking too many pro-Luigi posts

[-] Obi@sopuli.xyz 8 points 1 week ago

Next stop: banning folks just for looking/spending too much time on these posts.

[-] molten@lemmy.world 14 points 1 week ago

Better edit it to "I wish Putin all my thoughts and prayers. I hope he gets a new better limo as a result. The world is so unfair. Also ceasefire for Ukraine lol."

Maybe remove the last part.

[-] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 12 points 1 week ago

Saying stuff not even as direct as that is what got me permanently banned and the reason that I'm here now

Reddit really chose to side with evil

[-] psmgx@lemmy.world 12 points 1 week ago

You'd get thrown out of a window in Russia for saying that

My first thought. Maybe the Russian equivalent: president's billionaire buddy has a Russian luxury car factory propped up by government money, riddled with problems.

[-] LordWiggle@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

Yes, it's the new tesler, it's the greatest car in the world according to this note I got, I love tesler by the way.

[-] perestroika@lemm.ee 146 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

The headline is mistaken. I checked out an article with photos from the scene.

The limousine was authentic. The place was nice, a few blocks from the FSB headquarters.

But there was no "tremendous explosion" - the car just burnt. Every house had its windows intact, the car itself had its windows intact while burning, etc.

Explanations: technical malfunction, passer-by with fire cubes and a lighter.

[-] silicon@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago

What's a fire cube? I'm guessing you're not referring to the Amazon Fire cube...

[-] Dultas@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago

Maybe something like the solid fuel cubes used for camping. https://www.rei.com/product/653344/esbit-solid-fuel-tablets

[-] perestroika@lemm.ee 8 points 1 week ago

I probably don't know the correct term in English. It's a product for starting a fire in a wood-fired stove or campfire. A rectanglular block of wood fiber soaked in oil.

Now they're getting it - blow up putin - end of war and Ukraine prevails. Also, trump and his entire criminal organization no longer have the backing and deviousness of putin and fail. America wins. The world wins.

Let's not miss next time, okay?

[-] chonglibloodsport@lemmy.world 41 points 1 week ago

Blowing up Putin would be nice but it’s not a guarantee the war would end. It would lead to a power struggle in the Kremlin, no doubt, but there are loads of hawks in that regime and many are much more extreme than even Putin.

Of course, a more extreme war hawk might end up benefitting Ukraine by hastening the collapse of Russia. Or it might lead to nuclear war. It’s really hard to predict exactly what will happen.

[-] FreakinSteve@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

This sounds like classic Democrat excuse for inaction.

[-] YarHarSuperstar@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago

Those Ukrainian Democrats are known for inaction actually

Of course, considering he's a paranoid former KGB agent who won't even sit at a normal table with his closest advisors, it would not exactly be trivial to drop him.

[-] samuelazers@lemmy.world 1 points 6 days ago

I read an article, how Putin never sleeps at the same place twice. He selects a random house for the night, then kick out the people living inside. So nobody ever knows where he spends the day.

Eh. Regardless of how careful he is, he's still just a man. If it's a coup from within the security he has means nothing, and they will also know where he is at a given time.

I'm amazed no one has pointed out the possibility that this was staged by Putin himself as a prerequisite to enforce greater surveillance, military and police presence, claim opposition and Ukraine to be terrorists, and so on. This is, besides a malfunction, much more likely than a failed assassination attempt that went this badly, doesn't have a suspect, and got reported on.

[-] aeshna_cyanea@lemm.ee 1 points 6 days ago

bro why do you think he started the war

[-] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 99 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

First of all, this does not look like an assassination attempt. The engine caught fire. A Russian-made limousine. Might be (politically motivated) vandalism, might be "a Tesla".

There's no freedom of speech or poltical expression in Russia anymore. The state controls the media and the media control the narrative. This is the totalitarian approach. The disadvantage for Putin/Kreml is that they really don't know anymore how deep the resentment against them goes. And neither do we.

Of course the explanation will be that Ukrainian sympathisers did it, but I think it's easy to see that a Russian does not even have to be a Ukrainian sympathiser to want Putin dead.

What kind of low rent dictator has to park on the street?

[-] krimson@lemmy.world 22 points 1 week ago

"However, media reports have confirmed that no one was injured."

Try harder.

[-] febra@lemmy.world 21 points 1 week ago

There’s a high chance that the car is just shit… would be nice if it was an actual assassination attempt but honestly who knows.

[-] boonhet@lemm.ee 14 points 1 week ago

It's an Aurus, a Russian luxury brand. Knowing Russian automotive engineering, I'm sure the only part that works properly is the engine, which was developed with help from Porsche.

"The attack on my life has left me scarred" 🤣

[-] TankovayaDiviziya@lemmy.world 19 points 1 week ago

You have one job!

Being a clever bastard with a gangster mindset, of course Putin would have been paranoid one way or the other, so that won't change much I think. But things like that happening - no matter if it will end up being explainable as a proper accident or a failed assassination attempt or whatever - tend to undermine the mythos of being invulnerable and always 3 steps ahead of the game, that people like Putin want to disseminate about themselves. That's my current hope in the political climate.

[-] Formfiller@lemmy.world 12 points 1 week ago

Damn so close. I’m sure there’s plenty of Russian civilians who have lost their sons who want to see that man dead

[-] Stern@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago

Wow its dangerous in Russia. Exploding cars, people keep falling out windows, accidentally shooting themselves in the back of the head repeatedly then falling down elevator shafts. Someone should establish some safety programs.

[-] Red_October@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago

Godamnit, swing and a miss. Second time's the charm.

[-] cortex7979@lemm.ee 5 points 1 week ago

When will a drone finally hit the target

[-] ArchmageAzor@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

I don't know if I buy that the people are rising up, but maybe some oligarch got tired of Putin for some reason? Or maybe the KGB doesn't like how slow the conquering of Ukraine is going.

[-] Flyswat@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 week ago

I expect news in the coming days of people falling out of windows...
