I'm still using island. It works fine. Theres an app on f droid called insular which looks to be the same thing and is more recently updated. Also theres an island on the play store that just got updated. I now have no idea what island I am using.
I use Shelter and it's worked fine for me. It's on F-Droid and was last updated on Dec 12, 2023.
