So much amazing art in this game. Whole game is a painting, quite literally even.
For real.
AFAIK supergiant does use a fair bit of 3D, but their games are rendered orthographically. Together with a bunch of other tricks in the animations and shading, it gives everything a 2D look. And a lot of the things that don't need to turn and move I think are indeed drawn, which mixes in perfectly.
Yea you can tell that the characters in the game like Zagreus and the enemies are 3D (although rendered in a way that makes them look painted), but most everything else is painted.
I've still deliberately avoided any and all information about the sequel as I want to wait for the full release to experience it :)
