It's super simple!

You click a square, it's either a bomb or not. If it's not, it will show a number telling you how many of the surrounding 8 squares contain a bomb. If a square has 0 bombs in surrounding squares it will just open, so you save unnecessary clicks. It's the goal to click every square that does not contain a bomb. If you click a bomb, you lose.

After understanding the rules you can beat the game super quick and easily.

Except when its a 50/50 in the corner. That happens so much and i will never recover from that anxiety.

Ever tried Logic Minesweeper? It’s pretty cool: It’s basically Minesweeper without randomness:
If you guess and have to guess because it’s impossible to know that any square has no bomb, it will always not be a bomb and you can continue.
But if you guess and click on a square where you don’t know whether it’s a bomb while there are other squares where you could know it and safely click on it, it will always be a bomb and you’ll lose!

So in summary: No randomness (no random dying because you had to guess and no random clicking on squares because you’re currently in a difficult situation).

if you're interested, try Antimine on Fdroid, best minesweeper app I've found, and it's open source

Good recommendation, thanks. Another game on fdroid that's worth trying is Mindustry, but it's a totally different kind of game.

God i fucking LOVE mindustry. I especially love playing PvP. Getting to build and command an entire robot army from scratch feels very good for me. I even bought it on steam

Thanks for reminding me I have this installed. I've spent all day playing this instead of doing my work.

i only play hyperbolic and vornoi minesweeper nowadays. squares are for squares.

[-] Ddhuud@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

Play it? I coded a clone in visual basic 4 when I was in highschool.

[-] Holzkohlen@feddit.de 6 points 1 year ago

I was definitely 20+ before I learned how to play that.

[-] Speculater@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

So far no need to guess! Nice game!

[-] WizBizX05 2 points 1 year ago

I tried to play it on my google play games app that was pre installed on my phone but I never understood the rules. I did learn to play solitaire on there tho.

If you maximise the grid area and minimise the number of mines you can win with one lucky click :-)
