I love how you get downvoted for stating the obvious. Oh someone does not like tattoos and/or piercings? That person must be the devil himself! Absurd. Focus on actual arguments instead of such nonsense.

[-] Stanley_Pain@lemmy.dbzer0.com 32 points 6 months ago

Imagine reading a joke/meme and feeling personally called out by it.

[-] Seleni@lemmy.world 5 points 6 months ago

A person reveals his character by nothing so clearly as the joke he resents.

~Georg C. Lichtenberg

(Who also liked his women on the younger side, come to think of it, although at least he waited until she was 16 to marry her. Wonder if he would have found this unfunny too.)

[-] Boomkop3@reddthat.com 3 points 6 months ago

It's a joke as much as promoting hateful stereotypes is a joke

[-] MotoAsh@lemmy.world 22 points 6 months ago

Wow, imagine thinking it's bad to hate terrible disgusting people that make the world a worse place for everyone... What kind of sheltered ignorance does someone need for that?

[-] gaylord_fartmaster@lemmy.world 16 points 6 months ago

Hateful stereotypes aren't a problem when the hate is rational.

[-] Boomkop3@reddthat.com 1 points 6 months ago

Hate is more bad for yourself than that it stops anyone else doing or being the things you're hating on

[-] SattaRIP@kbin.social 14 points 6 months ago

The most oppressed class: conservatives.

[-] RusAD@lemm.ee 8 points 6 months ago

Conservatives are much more hateful than any stereotype

[-] Boomkop3@reddthat.com 1 points 6 months ago

Does that mean you should be too?

[-] RusAD@lemm.ee 1 points 6 months ago

I should be what? A conservative? No, thank you, I live in reality and I'm not scared of made-up culture war bullshit

[-] Boomkop3@reddthat.com 1 points 6 months ago

No, hateful. Just because someone else does something stupid doesn't mean you should

[-] RusAD@lemm.ee 1 points 6 months ago

Oh, yeah, you should be hateful of intolerance. If you aren't, you're hurting those who are getting hatecrimed by conservatives

[-] Boomkop3@reddthat.com 1 points 6 months ago

Why are you generalizing a political movement?

[-] RusAD@lemm.ee 1 points 6 months ago

How am I generalizing, beyond pointing out the defining cause behind the movement?

[-] Boomkop3@reddthat.com 1 points 6 months ago

This is not a general thing amongst conservatives, that would be ridiculous

[-] RusAD@lemm.ee 1 points 6 months ago

Yeah, modern conservatives are ridiculous. Haven't you heard?

[-] Boomkop3@reddthat.com 1 points 6 months ago

I've seen strong polarization in politics, and people demonizing their opponents. Thinking the majority falls in that extreme spectrum is a ridiculous notion imo

[-] RusAD@lemm.ee 1 points 6 months ago

Well... if a conservative:

  • supports gay marriage
  • doesn't believe in ROGD or the notion that people become transgender because of social contagion
  • is okay with sex education that includes homosexuality
  • supports transgender athletes
  • supports transgender people using bathrooms according to their gender
  • is okay with drag shows and doesn't believe they're automatically unsuitable for children
  • doesn't believe that people of color are inherently more violent/stupid/dangerous/filthy/etc
  • supports schools in teaching even the unsightly parts of the country's history
  • supports immigration
  • supports diversity and inclusion
  • doesn't believe that young people are lazy ungrateful brats
  • doesn't support patriarchy
  • defends women's rights to abortion
  • believes that government should spend more money on helping homeless, drug addicts, disabled, orphans, etc

Is this person still a conservative?

[-] Boomkop3@reddthat.com 1 points 6 months ago

That is a long list, perhaps there's nuance here? Someone can support some of those and not others, and still mostly lean into a particular political direction

[-] RusAD@lemm.ee 1 points 6 months ago

Yeah. There's a lot of things that conservatives hate, that's what I was saying since the beginning. And I didn't even mention the hate of non-christians, for example, or for socialists.

And if you support some things but not the others, you're still supporting policies based on hate, so my point stands

[-] Boomkop3@reddthat.com 1 points 6 months ago

Some people support things based on hate, but unless you can read minds you can't generalize that. And also not all conservatives are christians

[-] RusAD@lemm.ee 1 points 6 months ago

Can you give me one singular reason to oppose gay marriage that isn't based on hate?

[-] Boomkop3@reddthat.com 1 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

The meme is about conservatives not liking tattoos, are just just adding this gay-hating claim to justify your hate for them?

[-] RusAD@lemm.ee 1 points 6 months ago

Ok, so you do admit that opposition to gay marriage is based on hate. Good.

And the discussion was about the fact that the vast majority of conservative policies are dictated by fear. Have you forgotten?

[-] Boomkop3@reddthat.com 1 points 6 months ago

No, I did not, I can't read minds unfortunately. And no, we're in a comment thread about a meme.

[-] Stanley_Pain@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 6 months ago

Ah yes the sensitive conservative with a persecution complex stereotype....

An international (English speaking) socialist Lemmy community free of the "ML" influence of instances like lemmy.ml and lemmygrad. This is a place for undogmatic shitposting and memes from a progressive, anti-capitalist and truly anti-imperialist perspective, regardless of specific ideology.

Serious posts, news, and discussion go in c/Socialism.

If you are new to socialism, you can ask questions and find resources over on c/Socialism101.

Please don't forget to help keep this community clean by reporting rule violations, updooting good contributions and downdooting those of low-quality!

Rules

Version without spoilers

0. Only post socialist memes

That refers to funny image macros and means that generally videos and screenshots are not allowed. Exceptions include explicitly humorous and short videos, as well as (social media) screenshots depicting a funny situation, joke, or joke picture relating to socialist movements, theory, societal issues, or political opponents. Examples would be the classic case of humorous Tumblr or Twitter posts/threads. (and no, agitprop text does not count as a meme)

1. Socialist Unity in the form of mutual respect and good faith interactions is enforced here

Try to keep an open mind, other schools of thought may offer points of view and analyses you haven't considered yet. Also: This is not a place for the Idealism vs. Materialism or rather Anarchism vs. Marxism debate(s), for that please visit c/AnarchismVsMarxism.

2. Anti-Imperialism means recognizing capitalist states like Russia and China as such

That means condemning (their) imperialism, even if it is of the "anti-USA" flavor.

3. No liberalism, (right-wing) revisionism or reactionaries.

That includes so called: Social Democracy, Democratic Socialism, Dengism, Market Socialism, Patriotic Socialism, National Bolshevism, Anarcho-Capitalism etc. . Anti-Socialist people and content have no place here, as well as the variety of "Marxist"-"Leninists" seen on lemmygrad and more specifically GenZedong (actual ML's are welcome as long as they agree to the rules and don't just copy paste/larp about stuff from a hundred years ago).

4. No Bigotry.

The only dangerous minority is the rich.

5. Don't demonize previous and current socialist experiments or (leading) individuals.

We must constructively learn from their mistakes, while acknowledging their achievements and recognizing when they have strayed away from socialist principles.

(if you are reading the rules to apply for modding this community, mention "Mantic Minotaur" when answering question 2)

6. Don't idolize/glorify previous and current socialist experiments or (leading) individuals.

Notable achievements in all spheres of society were made by various socialist/people's/democratic republics around the world. Mistakes, however, were made as well: bureaucratic castes of parasitic elites - as well as reactionary cults of personality - were established, many things were mismanaged and prejudice and bigotry sometimes replaced internationalism and progressiveness.
