The books sound interesting, and Ive added to my reading list but I do feel Storm Front is a bit of an unfortunate name

Don't worry, it refers to using actual thunder storms for evil magic stuff.

Yeah Butcher is pretty good about being anti-racist even if he can be a bit of a creep. Which is a very good thing, considering the characters who start showing up in later books and reveals about certain skulls.

Based on his other two series, I’d contend that while Dresden is a creep at times, Butcher himself doesn’t seem to be one.

(X)

I do appreciate him dialing it back for Cinder Spires. Maybe he can stick the landing with the latest plot developments in the Dresden Files but I doubt it.

Is there more than 1 book out for the spires?

[-] ultranaut@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago

Second book came out a few months ago.

[-] DragonTypeWyvern@literature.cafe 1 points 8 months ago

Yeah the second one came out in 2023. Haven't read it yet personally but I assume it stayed the course from the first one.

Yeah… it’s taken on a certain meaning since it was published. I’ll warn you that the first 2.5 books are the weakest of the set, not bad; just immature writing. (The reasons make sense if you know the story behind them being written).

Jim Butcher has stated that Dead Beat was written as a reintroduction for new readers to coincide with the debut of the TV series. That way new people could try a book in the series that was more representative of his writing. It is still one of my current favorite series though.

The TV series was a mistake, was so excited when I saw it but man it fell flat.

[-] waigl@lemmy.world 4 points 8 months ago

The series is pretty okay, I think. Some nice, light, cheesy entertainment, nothing wrong about. You probably don't want to watch it after having started on the books, and if you do, it might be best to pretend it has nothing to do with the books and is its own thing.

I was heavy heavy into the books when I saw it. I guess looking at it in the light of "this has no relation to the books" it wasn't bad, but it was a bad adaptation

[-] wahming@monyet.cc 2 points 8 months ago

Why so? I'm not up on pop culture

Ah. Seems like a perfect way to reclaim the term from them, then?

Bro, the fucking Nazis started that one. They were huge on "storm" imagery, that's part of why you got SS lightning bolts, stormtroopers, etc.
