Smallest one yet! (lemmy.world)
submitted 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) by OrderedChaos@lemmy.world to c/crochet@lemmy.ca

I modified a .5 mm hook and sanded/shaved it down to somewhere between .4 and .3 to make this one. I used regular sewing thread.

As seen previously here and here.

Pattern (in Spanish): https://ravel.me/spring-shawl-24

Finally finished my Spring Shawl last week and blocked over the weekend. I thought I wouldn't have any chance to use it because it's technically Spring here, but it's been surprisingly cold so I've been able to wear it and LOVE IT. Everyone compliments it and I feel super proud, even though there are some mistakes here and there that probably only I can see xD

Finished my Halloween top just in time! (media.mastodon.sunny.garden)

Please excuse the poor quality photo, I finished weaving in the ends JUST as our annual Spooktacular movie marathon was kicking off so it was heckin' dark and spooky in our living room πŸ˜‚

Spiderweb top as per the tutorial here: https://youtu.be/VtQjWlf8NKA

Random black fingering weight yarn I had lying around πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

Tbh the pattern is not amazingly well-designed, there are weird gaps under the arms and it assumes your body has certain proportions that mine does not (it's very tight around my hips, and fixing that the way the video suggests would result in the neck being way too big).

But it's also a very quick, very simple bit of fun, and I'll probably spruce it up a bit with some fixes for next year so I can wear it outside the house!

This week I've spent more time untangling this damn cake than actually crocheting. So I finally gave up and re-wound the leftover thread into a smaller ball. Much better.

I hope to be able to finish and block this weekend. Fingers crossed!

No doggo in this pic because I took it before leaving for work and she was still sleeping.

My first post here! I'm doing my first shawl with slow transition yarn. I learnt crochet when I was a kid but I had never done such a big project. I work full time so I run home every day to get some rows done lol. Now that my shawl has grown a bit since taking these pictures that means 2-3 rows a day, but oh well, no rush here :)

Flower Hat (startrek.website)

My daughter wants to be a flower fairy for Halloween so I made this hat to go with her costume. I love the purple yarn but I bought it second hand and discovered it had been stored with moth balls so that was an adventure getting the smell out. I think it is ok now! I might add a ribbon to help cinch it around her head, I think a little bow would look nice. You can't really tell here but I added sparkly purple thread to make it extra magical. I hope she likes it!

I'm making a few of these for a friend. They are about 6" long and have some pipe cleaners on the inside to help them keep shape if you give them a little bend!

Inspired by this post by @lazerp@lemmy.world , I had to make a start on my own spiderweb top last week. I'm a bit older and...let's say "slightly" wider...than the target audience so honestly not sure if it's going to work or not but it's so fast and cheap to make I figured why not!

The dummy was already wearing that hat, so it's just coincidence, but I will 100% be wearing those together as it's clearly fate.

Just a note for anyone else trying to follow the video tutorial linked in the OP, the white version that the designer is wearing has 11 segments (like mine) but if you follow the instructions she gives in the video you'd end up with 12. So just personal preference and something to bear in mind, there!

Hopefully I can get this done pretty quickly in between other projects. What else are you all crocheting this Wednesday?

Hey there! I did some little projects of 30-45min and my wrist felt a bit sore at the end. While I understand that me being new to thoses movements and may still be a bit crisp, I was wondering if there is some absolute don't hold your tool or yarn like that to avoid hurting myself. For now, I use my thumb to slide the yarn on my hook and both my hands (alternate) to hold my project. I see a lot of yarn around index and project holding between thumb and middle finger and it doesn't feel stable alenough for me. Should I try again or just de what feels comfortable (even if it's slower)?

Ghostie Bag (sh.itjust.works)

Second ever bag, first time following a graph. Tons of fun. Now I have a bag to use for the next month and a half!

I really like the way the green turned out. I used scrap yarn so the white was actually a 3 instead of everything else which was a 4, and only have a 3.50 hook. Overall, still in love.

I'll link the pattern once I relocate it. My wife wanted one after I made a few this past year with a single color. I think it came out pretty good this time. Practice makes perfection.

Guess the animal (sh.itjust.works)

I made this as a gift, but long story short I don't have the right yarn colours or the right sized hook or the right eyes. So I improvised. Hoping it still reads as the animal I intended!

Ps. The recipient knows my current status and why I can't procure the correct yarn, etc. They'll still appreciate it I'm sure.

Ok so it's not the most dramatic transformation, but I'd already committed to the post title by the time I realised. It still counts!

This is a cropped version of the "Boatneck Top w/ Kimono Drop Sleeve" pattern by Kristen Stein. The pattern is supposed to be a long tunic style top, which I have also made before (and since lost, oops), but since it's built up out of repeating motifs that are joined as you go I figured it should be possible to just leave the bottom ones off and make something more cropped.

Took it on holiday in August as part of my me-made "cruise witch" wardrobe, so here's a bonus pic of me doing "influencer pose" πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ

Filet pattern generators (drive.google.com)
submitted 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) by ConfusedOrder@lemmy.ca to c/crochet@lemmy.ca

I recently created a simple pattern generator from black and white images (aka 2 colors) using powershell. Anyone interested in it here is the script. You sadly have to enable scripts or copy paste the whole thing into a powershell ISE window. Make sure to update the file names. I haven't cleaned it up yet as I just barely got the logic side of it functioning. I did borrow stuff from a lot of sources and I will come back and edit this post to give credit where I can. It inverts the image so the pattern starts at the bottom of an image and then inverts every other line for when you rotate your workpiece.

I'm thinking of making something similar in something like Python to make it less OS specific. I'm debating also increasing it to making grid patterns instead of just text for those who like graphic images more. Here is an example of the text output for something I'm making as a gag gift for my sibling.

EDIT: File has been updated to prompt for file location and will save the pattern file in the same directory as the script using the input file's name. Please note that you will want to make sure your input file is black and white and small dimensions or it'll take forever. It will do the job regardless of the file size it just takes a very long time. Plus I don't know anyone that wants to filet a blanket using an image that is 1920x1080..... :P

Last Edit for this version: It will prompt to save. If you double click on a file to copy it's filename and hit save it'll say you're overwriting but you're actually not. It'll save with a .txt extension thus preserving the original. This is a default warning from microsoft so if there is a way to change it I'm not bothered to find out. It'll accept you keeping the extension in the name field or removing it as I've checked for both contingencies. Overall this is pretty much a complete package. I hope this helps someone.

Hi guys!

I've been using Ravelry for around a decade now (not so much for the social aspect - which has always been great, when I did participate) and have gotten a few apps over the years to help fill in the gaps - like before the mobile view was useful, I had an app that was a mobile-app-interface for the desktop site, for example.

Yesterday was the first time I'd heard of Ribblr and I think I really like it! It seems to have the databasing of patterns and yarn like Ravelry does, but there's a method of keeping tabs on where you are in the pattern right there on the page. And there's a marketplace. I don't know how much I care about that, but I do have 2 large suitcases of things I've made and still have...

This is not an advertisement or affiliate linking or anything like that - I was just curious if any of you guys had seen it (been around since 2019, I guess. I don't internet much), have any insights on Ribblr - good or bad - or have any other sites that you would recommend people check out.

Thanks!

Help finding yarn (beehaw.org)

I've been thinking about starting a new project.

I was really inspired by the look of the shawl in this blog post.

The problem I'm running into is finding yarn that will fade from one colour to the next gradually over the span of 1000m. All the skeins I'm finding in my local shop vary in colour a couple of times in just 300m, or much less gradual than that.

If such a product can't be easily found, I suppose I could buy several skeins, cut them into many long pieces, group those pieces by colour, and then wind it all back up again? But to me that sounds like a crazy idea.

I'm the first to admit that I'm new to crochet and I'm still just shopping at the local general craft store. That's why I'm posting. I'd really appreciate any advice that more experienced folks have on finding what I'm looking for.

Made the second pattern by 1UpCrochet this weekend. For some reason starting a magic circle with 3 sc is really difficult. Really struggled with getting the tension the same on both horn tips.
