The phone app (by Google) has 700 mb of data on the phone. What is that? Call history? Contacts? Then what is in the contacts app? Is it safe to delete?

Stylus for Surface Duo? (sh.itjust.works)

I just bought a second-hand surface duo running android for the sole purpose of emulating nintendo ds. I want a stylus to emulate that part of the experience, but all styluses are a lot more expensive than i anticipated. But they seem to include stuff i really dont need such as bluetooth connectivity and such like.

Can i just get any pointy plastic thing to use as a stylus or do i need one of these that connect to the phone?

So I was recently talking about a few phones I had bought used, which have FRP lockout. So, the one I was talking about working on at the time is a Galaxy J7 Sky Pro. Well I finally used DroidKit on it, and after a moderately lengthy procedure, it is FREE of the lockout! So the software is not a scam, it actually did work.

I have been having trouble with another phone because when it gets to the stage where it needs to dial *#0*# it supposed to bring up the factory mode to test various components. I’ve seen this on other phones work but this one, a Galaxy A01, it doesn’t bring up that mode. And it can’t continue. Another phone I have is a ZTE and that’s not one of the supported brands in Droidkit.

But one worked! Which means likely it’s fairly reliable. So that’s cool.

I have done extensive due diligence but there are a dozen conflicting posts on XDA covering how to go about this. Off of XDA are just a million sites with AI generated copy that's absolutely incorrect.

So, I have a new Galaxy Tab A7 Lite. I want to root it and have the superU app, etc. and I will then de-google it.

So, like I said, there's a ton of conflicting methods listed. Also, many provide instructions like "Now flash the device," or "put it in xyz mode" but they don't actually say how. Instructions are supposed to be instructive, not referential.

I'm not incapable; far from it. I rooted my Zenpad a few years ago. It's just I had comprehensive directions.

So, would anyone be up to the task? I'm offering $20 because I know this is a bit of a todo and I respect the value of your time and effort.

Thanks, all.

P.S. I should first make sure, rooting does not preclude keeping updates, right? If it would prohibit updates then I think I might not want to do it.

Is it supposed to be like a dock? I’m using Nova Launcher and then I found the Edge Panel and it is a bit much but for those who use the default launcher is that the idea?

Sony Xperia smartphones look so good on paper. So why is it that we don't recommend them? Here's our answer to that and a brief 2023 review of the Sony Xperia 1 IV.

Back when I was a high-school student in this 2017 - 2019 era, HMD released a lot of different devices, including a diverse smartphone portfolio covering every segment imaginable.

What caused them to drop this strategy in such a short time, and went forward with a strategy focusing on affordable smart-and-feature-phones? For example, the 9 PureView was their last flagship released in 2019, and its successor 9.3 PureView never materialized.

I suppose you can blame it on declining sales - from what I could find, HMD's sales indeed took a nosedive in 2020, but a more concrete answer would be much appreciated here.

Why is the exposure time/ shutter speed for my phone capped at 1/2 (half a second)? I would like to take photos with an exposure time of up to 30 seconds. Even when installing other apps, like GCam or Open Camera, it is not possible to increase the exposure time. I have an Fairphone 4 with Android 13.

In the screenshot you can see that the exposure time (S) is at the maximum value.

Do you have the same "issue" as me, or know how to fix it?

Hi all, so as per title, when I use browser app to make a pwa or 'add to homescreen' it works, but then opens the home page not the actual link I had created. From memory there was a hack where you would put your phone offline, airplane mode I think' and then it would save the link. But doesn't work anymore. Any1 have any solutions? Tx

Hi all,

Okay so my Galaxy Tab A7 Lite has arrived. I did some searching and it seems like there are a million options as far as replacing / hacking the rom.

So, all I want to do is have root access, and be rid of any bloat that’s built in. I prefer whatever is most tried and true, and whatever does not have any iffy components still. Like, I want everything to function without glitches, I want to get the most out of my hardware, and other than that, I really don’t want a 100-step process.

So, recommends? What’s available that’s very reliable and what does it offer me?

(Eg: GSI+Root, Lineage, Havoc, et al)

I appreciate any advice. Thank you.

The same way it does in Google maps, and in Waze. But I can't seem to find a setting on the phone that will do that for any other apps, and I can't find any information through internet searches that leave me that direction.

As usual, they show me what they think I ought to be looking for, which is how to lock an app. Not the question I asked, Google (or anybody else).

Is it impossible or does anybody have a tip? Not looking to go down the unlocking my phone root access path either. It's not that big a deal, I could turn on trusted devices, or extend unlock, but those aren't the solutions I'm looking for.

What IRC client do you all recommend for Android? I'm looking for a non-paid option that will allow me to connect to a passworded host. Any suggestions?

This stuff drives me so mad. I recently have noticed higher than usual over-night drain on my phone and decided to investigate a bit. So I connected my phone to my machine, closed out all the apps waited a few seconds and ran adb shell top with a few parameters to see what is actually running.

And would you look at that, despite the phone telling me that nothing is running at all, the microsoft copilot, ebay kleinanzeigen (a german craigslist), google photos and google search either have not been closed or somehow started themselves. Also I have not received any notifications for these Apps in the last few seconds.

First of all, how are these Apps even doing it? With the two Google Apps I kinda get it, since they are System Apps, but in the case of ebay Kleinanzeigen and microsoft copilot it makes 0 sense since they are regular 3rd party Apps. How can they bypass seemingly all optimizations and start themselves (I haven't used the Microsoft copilot app in months). Also is there any way to prevent this from happening or at the very least get some kind of summary how often these Apps ran in the background. Sadly the Android battery information page is totally useless. With many of these Apps I don't care about notifications or anything and I never want them to run after I close them in the task manager.

I installed a screen protector for the first time on Monday. I've been having issues getting my fingerprint to work and just would use my pin to unlock. This morning Android popped up a notification saying "Using a screen protector? Click here to increase touch sensitivity!" Pretty awesome.

Now stop asking me to use Gemini.

Hello 😊 Do you have in mind an android app that allows you to make diagrams?

Even something simple that lets you edit and view text graph like mermaid.js.org or other text format.

And if it's possible to integrate these tools with markdown notes that would be huge!!!! 🤗🤗🤗

Thanks for your boosts and answers!

For exemple on desktop I use draw.io or zettlr.com

Hi all,

I've been messing around with some old firesticks and really want root to remove all this bs

What do you think about buying some cheap android box and flashing lineage?

Any things I should look out for? My only hard requirement is custom ROMs

Thanks in advance

TL;DR

  • The Android 15 source code will be released next week, according to multiple sources.
  • The source code will allow Android platform developers to build modified versions of Android 15.
  • Major OEMs have already had access to Android 15’s source code, giving them a head start on preparing updates.

Hi,

I created another user on my custom rom Android (aka Multiple users)

Unfortunately when doing so the system do not adapt the permission of the sdcard and some other directory, thus the new user can't access them :/

So I wanted to "remote" terminal into my android device from my computer.

How are you achieving this ? ( without 3thparty apps please ! )

Thanks.
