Since its using YT Music in the background, its not 100% reliable. Youtube changes small stuff on their site and API from time to time which breaks these Apps. Happens once every couple of weeks. Just be aware of that!

[-] VintageGenious@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 week ago

Yes it is true

[-] potentiallynotfelix@lemmy.fish 17 points 1 week ago

If only it didn't use YTM as a backend. Youtube Music has the absolute worst recommendations I have ever used. It will literally play a song from an artist I never heard before in a genre I don't listen to. It's completely random. I wish OGG players were more popular.

[-] Default_Defect@midwest.social 20 points 1 week ago

That's exact opposite of my experience with it.

[-] GolfNovemberUniform@lemmy.ml 8 points 1 week ago

What does a file format have to do with music streaming apps?

[-] potentiallynotfelix@lemmy.fish 3 points 1 week ago

I say ogg instead of mp3, because I prefer it over mp3. OGG was always open but mp3 was formerly patented.

[-] GolfNovemberUniform@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 week ago

But we're talking about streaming here, not local playback.

[-] potentiallynotfelix@lemmy.fish 2 points 1 week ago

I'm talking about streaming versus local playback, saying local playback is better for me.

[-] Interstellar_1 6 points 1 week ago

I really like the interface of Namida for local play https://github.com/namidaco/namida

[-] sandwichsaregood@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I don't have a problem with it playing a song way out of nowhere, but what if does do is play the same like 20 songs over and over and over when I let it try to recommend things. Like the songs it picks are decent recommendations but damn could I have something different?

And while we're venting, its recommended album feed for me is surprisingly good, except that half the things it recommends are singles releases. I don't want to see those please let me just se albums...

At least they fixed the bug where "repeat album" would constantly turn itself on.

This is kinda bad. The UI is inconsistent, laggy and overall ugly.

I very much prefer Innertune as it has consistency and works much better than this. Loading takes a ton of time for whatever reason.

[-] RootBeerGuy@discuss.tchncs.de 11 points 1 week ago

Yeah, not sure why OP is so damn condescending here. I just tried this app today because Innertune is currently having issues playing songs and this one works.

The interface is super confusing, tapping some buttons changes other buttons next to them without any apparent reason. No explanations what symbols mean. It took me a while to find where the "liked" songs end up. Then I later tried to find it again and just couldn't find it anymore.

[-] Quintus@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 week ago

Yeah it's just not good at all. A song with a white heavy cover art just turn the entire screen white in "Playing Now" screen. Like, why? I don't want my eyes get any worse thank you.

By the way, Innertune's issue is fixed now.

[-] RootBeerGuy@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 1 week ago

Good to hear but it hasn't been updated yet as far as I can see.

[-] Quintus@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 week ago

Oops my fault! I forgot to mention that I'm using a fork. The issue is fixed there.

[-] RootBeerGuy@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 1 week ago

I have tried that one straight from fdroid and it hasn't worked for me unfortunately

[-] VintageGenious@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago

Because "overall ugly" is not a constructive comment. They may not like it, that's okay, not a reason to shit on the app

[-] pyre@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

what? ... not liking an app is the most appropriate reason to shit on an app.

[-] VintageGenious@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 week ago

It's the cause, not an excuse

[-] pyre@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

you don't need an excuse to shit on anything.

[-] VintageGenious@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 week ago

What a useless debate. Anyway they were asking why I was "condescending", well if you shit on a voluntary work, just because it's not at your taste, you are a shit person

[-] pyre@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

voluntary work doesn't make you immune to criticism and no you're not a shit person for criticizing any work.

I'd say you're a shit person if you can't handle criticism though.

[-] VintageGenious@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Constructive criticism is different than talking shit. Still a useless debate

Nice strawman btw

[-] pyre@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

talking shit is a completely different thing. and where's the strawman? it feels like you don't know what words mean.

[-] VintageGenious@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 days ago

"And no you're not a shit person for critizing any work" is the strawman

[-] pyre@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago
[-] VintageGenious@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 days ago

It is since I criticized only non-constructive criticizing and not critizing in general

[-] pyre@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

I disagree. "It's ugly" is valid criticism. It has the same value as "needs better/more appealing graphics". You're just annoyed it wasn't sugar coded. In fact I'd argue the former is more valuable than the latter because it doesn't beat around the bush and more importantly it points to a problem rather than the solution.

As a designer I find that most often customers don't hit the mark by trying to design the thing themselves, telling me exactly what they want, essentially trying to do my job for me. Hearing the customer's problems with it to figure out a solution on my own as a designer is better a vast majority of the time.

"I don't like it" is bad. "I think it looks awful" is better. "I hate the colors" is best. I don't really care about wording, I care about the information I get.

[-] Quintus@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I don't give a shit if I'm a shit person for "shitting" on voluntary work. That is how progress is made. Sorry if it bursts your bubble.

Besides, you speak as if I only typed "overall ugly" and left it there. As you can see, I gave more reasons. And all those are valid reasons.

[-] VintageGenious@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 week ago

I couldn't care less about you giving no shit about being a shit person for shitting on voluntary work. You could just have put the constructive criticism. Putting valid reasons doesn't justify throwing in an invalid one

[-] Quintus@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 week ago

Yeah that's constructive criticism. "Your app is ugly, UI is laggy, the design is inconsistent" What else do you want? Drop code snippets? You clearly do give a shit judging by how triggered you got.

And how is calling it ugly an invalid reason? The app looks ugly.

[-] Steamymoomilk@sh.itjust.works 12 points 1 week ago

Innertune is pretty good aswell

[-] GolfNovemberUniform@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 week ago

InnerTune mentioned.

[-] Amaterasu@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Yeah, I already can't decide between keeping Innertune or RiMusic (needs some tweaks but after you customize it is great)

[-] RootBeerGuy@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 1 week ago

Innertune stopped working for me a few days ago. I know they are working on a bugfix but so far alternatives like the fork of it from a user called Mal...something did not work for me either.

[-] Steamymoomilk@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 week ago

Yeah same :/ I miss my jams

[-] Lemongrab@lemmy.one 1 points 1 week ago

Are you using the fork? It gets more frequent updates.

[-] Steamymoomilk@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 week ago
[-] Lemongrab@lemmy.one 2 points 1 week ago

InnerTune (A fork of InnerTune, a Material 3 YouTube Music client for Android) https://f-droid.org/packages/com.malopieds.innertune/

[-] nasi_goreng@lemmy.zip 8 points 1 week ago

It also the only FOSS YT-based music player that actually support ruby text lyrics for Japanese.

[-] GolfNovemberUniform@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 week ago

I'm personally not a fan of its design but yea everyone likes their own thing.

[-] 4shtonButcher@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 1 week ago

Honestly have no experience here, but is this at all worth a look if you aren’t paying for YT? I’ve considered reshuffling/reducing the subscriptions I have and Spotify is probably the one I’m most attached to.

[-] VintageGenious@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago

The whole point of the app is to not have to pay a subscription

[-] 4shtonButcher@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 1 week ago

Thanks! Glad I asked, I honestly hadn’t understood that 😂

[-] VintageGenious@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago

You're welcome

[-] hubobes@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago

Looks nice but UI performance is pretty bad, framerate drops all the time whereas the YT Music app works pretty much flawlessly.
