I think , i haven't tried but I have seen it mentioned around. That we can block communities , so maybe that's something.
Since i'm using a private instance, i don't see other instances until i explicitly visit them, i believe.
Yes, users only see communities from other instances on all that another user from their own instance has subscribed too (or I suppose that they subscribed to but usually people aren't suprised about that)
Another vote for blocking but not de-federating. De-federating is a nuclear option with a lot of collateral damage, and it's pretty easy nowadays to just start screaming "pedophile" if your goal is to cause collateral damage. I'm worried that if instances start defederating in a knee-jerk reaction, it will be weaponized.
Just block it.

How is "federation" defined for lemmy. Is it like idp federation where your username/password is shared across instances - or does it mean something related to sharing communities?
