It is my first day here and I found more political subs than development/programming. But I am a tech person. I think that mostly fediverse enthusiasm comes with a technical/programming background.

This is the right answer. I certainly wouldn't say that Lemmy is "for" programmers, but it attracts a certain kind of audience, doesn't it.

if you wanna simply to hang out with people, consider joining some matrix chats. Real time communication is easier with instant notifications.
