Sounds more like an admission that there is something that needs jailbreaking in the first place

2025 literally started with a fire hurricane in the media capital of the world, on the doorstep of a bunch of famous people.

Doubt 2026 will be better.

The US is walking a fine line between undermining any given security guarantees to the point of being worthless, cheap talk and sounding "woke" by offering any.

People are buying takeout on credit. Pushing small recurring fees (and interest) for things consumers can't afford to buy outright has sort of been the name of the game for the consumer economy for the last 20 years or so.

Maybe more interesting that there is enough of an overstock to do this.

These link only clickbait posts irk me a little. First of all, I’m not going to take the bait. Second, I’m not going to use your ”privacy tool” without understanding it’s upside and having a tentative grasp of what it does and what data it uses. Third, I’m not convinced there are any best practices, privacy-wise, for using blatantly statesponsored Chinese spyware or that there’s any helping you if you’re still on X.

This is some true believer shit.

Google launched less than thirty years ago.

At the current rate of deterioration, it's not exactly certain to what extent the planet will be able to sustain human life, much less whether a much loathed spyware company will still be around to pay the bills.

I tried finding a FOSS app that I could use to use my phone as a mouse (all options for this seem really shady IMO) and Google's "AI overview" recommended the app "Bluetooth Keyboard & Mouse". Seemingly, because it has a (mostly empty) Git repo with typical folders. I tried entering the search term into Copilot on my work computer and got the same result, Copilot also gave a little speech on why the app was FOSS. Only when told there was no source code in the repo did Copilot backtrack and say it wasn't open source (and later having it listed as not recommended because of an unknown origin [eventhough it's in the Google Play store...]).

As a user, i.e. not contributor, of FOSS I found this an interesting revelation. Is this an intentional catfishing strategy to get apps promoted by the LLMs – as a semi-illegitimate growth hack for a legitish app or for entirely illegitimate purposes? Or just a serendipitous LLM hallucination?

Germany has done a lot of good with green energy too, so it's not all bad

yours to hear

Though, from the snippet above it seems he just gave Greenlanders the right to listen to it, not actuallly gave the territory of Greenland all economic rights to his catalogue

It's probably right that Trump is overstating his win, but frankly any form of yielding to Trump is infuriating. If there is a deal that covers "the entire Arctic region" the details will be important. Countries in that region include Canada, Denmark, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia. One should not assume it's a win for the Nato countries with more Trump regime forces in the region after the US has threatened invasion or annexation of two of them.

It's included, but good lord if that's not a very high price for temporary access to a collection of bargain bin games. You could buy a full price game every other month for that money.

I think you just have to live with a lot of posts being about the unfolding break in the world order for a while. I mean, sure, some posts might have been suitable to merge, but mostly they're about different developments. The posts are also getting a lot of engagement and generating discussion.

Consider that Russia has been failing to take over a neighboring country for several years now, for incomprehensible reasons, displaying immense incompetence on every level along the way. It is inherently very unlikely that Russia simultaneously has masterminded the entire fabric of the US and effectively taken over the country through sheer genius.

No doubt that Trump is playing right into Putin's hands, but Putin is also an idiot: not omnipotent.

I think it's more worth considering that the MAGA doomsday cult has a lot of interests that align with Russia, e.g. shifting U.S focus to the Western Hemisphere for resource dominance, as suggested by Aslı Bâli in the latest episode of The Dig (https://thedigradio.com/podcast/maga-empire-w-asli-bali-and-greg-grandin/).
