Have you tried or considered Language Transfer?

I'm not a big steampunk fan, but I enjoyed the video. Thanks for posting it.

Looks like Lemmy lost 3.4% of MAU over the last week (Fediverse Activity Post). With severs jumping in and out it might feel more like 7-8%.

Notes:

  1. Threadiverse is Piefed, Lemmy, and Mbin. Fediverse only accounts for listed software [12], not the other [117] software tracked by Fediverse-Observer.
  2. Fediverse-Observer provides daily MAU back to 20221130. FediDB only provides a current snapshot (snapshot within the last 15 minutes, no time series data) and doesn't track all software.
  3. FediDB seems to use unclear math to get there counts and overestimate the MAU on most software (see previous week's post, if interested in learning more).
  4. Weirdly Loops has a ~3 week gap in data about a year ago.

Takeaways:

  • Lemmy appears to still be jumping around with servers coming in and out.
  • Loops still in a downward trend, but looks to be shallow-ing out. Hopefully stabilize by next week's post.
  • Piefed possibly stabilized. Looks like ~3000 users joined in the last wave (~1 month ago) of those ~2000 stayed. Alt. up to all of them stayed, but ~1000 moved servers once after arriving.
  • Pixelfed had some good growth this week.

My goal is to average 1 post and 7 comments a week. I started late, and not there yet, but hope to get there within the next month. Do you have any goals or plans on building the Fediverse?

I heard there was a plan to do a monthly Piefed “hackathon” to improve Piefed, but I think that was mostly for translation. Is there any update on that or any other interesting plans out there to improve any part of the Fediverse?

  2. Fediverse-Observer provides daily MAU back to 20221130. FediDB only provides a current snapshot (snapshot within the last 15 minutes, no time series data) and doesn't track all software.
  3. Not sure why the two sources have different counts. A quick search of Lemmy showed they found all the same large servers (1 FediDB duplicate found: lemmygrad.ml & lemmygrad.com, 679 & 651 MAU), but got significantly different total MAU counts somehow? Fediverse-Observer MAU appears correct (at least with regards to Lemmy).
  4. "Last Week" is actually [6D]ays ago not the usual [7D]ays because there was a server detection/duplication issue that happened [7D]ays ago and was corrected [6D]ays ago.
  5. Weirdly Loops has a ~3 week gap in data about a year ago.

Takeaways:

  • Positive Growth (every day last week): Piefed
  • Lemmy's data has bounced up and down in the last week. May be due to the NSFW server shutting down, then coming back as an archive, and then shutting down again?
  • Loops may have reached its local peak and people are starting to leave again :(
  • Seems like a middling, slightly negative week for the Fediverse.

Edit:

  • Looking through mbin's server list it looks like FediDB has a duplicate (Tardigram alpha (167 MAU) & mbin.level5.dev (173 MAU)), while Fediverse-Observer is missing 2 servers (Tardigram alpha (167 MAU) & thebrainbin.org (39 MAU)). So, potentially mbin is at ~1000 MAU. Even based on FediDB list of mbin servers (including the duplicate), it only adds up to 1146 MAU (not 1418). I have no idea how FediDB is getting their MAU count.

For full context look at the previous strip (yesterday's), but basically free mail in beanie with proof of purchasing 4 boxes of the sugar cereal.

  • Note: Threadiverse is Piefed, Lemmy, and Mbin. Fediverse only accounts for listed software [12], not the other [117] software tracked by the website.
  • Source: Fediverse-Observer
  • Caveats: Only using 1 source, using two different sets of data within the same source (why 6 month[6M] and 1 year[12M] data seems off compared to the others[*D], I didn't dig through the code to figure out why that would be).

Takeaways:

  • Big growth in the Fediverse this week (ex. ~~Mastodon >50%, Lemmy and~~ Piefed >10%). Looks like the Fediverse-Observer software updated yesterday and found(?) a bunch of previously unknown servers (10-50%). Due to the change, my API code now works and made this post far easier :)
  • Piefed and Loops had positive growth each day last week
  • Congrats to Piefed (>5000 MAU) and PeerTube (>40,000 MAU) for reaching All-Time highs
  • Forgejo lost a server in the last week that had ~80% of its users (20260217)
  • ~~Fediverse bigger than it was a 12 months ago!~~

Mods: Again, feel free to delete if its not appropriate in the community.

  1. Edit: Fixed Threadiverse Change (%)s. Known bug, ~~will fix for next time~~ (already fixed).
  2. Edit: Added another takeaway. Changed the code to be more accurate and added the result (a couple numbers slightly changed)
  3. Edit: Rimu of Piefed found a bug in the Fediverse-Observer server list (duplicates). I looked through and found a few more duplicates. ~~The data for those 4 software (Mastodon, Lemmy, Pixelfed and Peertube) have been adjusted to be accurate with the removed duplicates.~~ Fediverse-Observer dev has been notified of the issue.
  4. Note: Fediverse-Observer dev is now aware of the issue. The issue is caused by either server mis-configurations or bad actors trying to inflate numbers. The dev is working on a method to clean up or filter out the issue. I'll check next week for duplicates and adjust numbers accordingly if they are still there.
  5. Edit: Fediverse-Observer dev fixed the issue the same day they were informed. I changed the numbers to be from the fixed day [20260222] and ignore the erroneous data day [20260221]. PeerTube did hit an All-Time high with 40k. Next week's post will be on Monday to ignore the erroneous data day again (-1 week comparison).

Takeaways:

  • Threadiverse growth this week
  • Fediverse shrinks this week
  • Piefed and Loops had positive growth each day last week (Friendica almost did)

I recently got a Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W.

I'm hoping to set up a circuit (with attached solar panel and battery) to activate at regular intervals to preform a servo motor movement. I'm not sure how often I can make the activation, as I don't know the power draw of the board or movement, or how fast the solar panel will charge the battery. I hoping there is a way to measure the power draw of the board and attached circuit, along with the battery level, over an extended time frame and in an automated manner. Is this possible?

Thanks for your time.

Edit: Addional info:

  • This would be likely a one off characterization.
  • I would like time series data over several days or longer.

My understanding is that it's not for if you run away, but if they go missing, forensics will be able to place them with the car, before they went missing.

  • Caveats: Only using 1 source, using two different sets of data within the same source (why 6 month and 1 year data seems off compared to the others, I didn't dig through the code to figure out why that would be).

  • Other Notes: Did write a script to that could interact with Fediverse-Observer, unfortunately I ran into a bug in the API. Contacted the developer, they were nice and patched the bug the same day. However, the patch hasn’t made it to the main branch yet (should happen the next week or two). Also, looked into the Piefed API, looks relatively easy to interact with, so hopefully this post should be more automated next time (it's not fun entering all the values manually).

Congratulations to Piefed and Loops for significant growth (>100%) over the last 2 weeks.

Not sure what happened to Bookwyrm last week (20260202), but they lost ~60% of their users on 1 day (lost contact with a server or server shutdown?).

Something to keep in mind is these are the public numbers. The actual numbers may be significantly worse.

Sorry you ran into those issues and the rude person.

I think new accounts have some restrictions for the first 3(?) days. My understanding is that this was implemented to try to counter an annoying person who keeps making accounts doing shitty things and then deleting that account and making a new one.

I'm pretty sure there's a way to add multiple images to a post, but I've never done it.

For the new content, you may want to try switching your view to "New" or if it's your first time looking at piefed during the day "Top (x)" [x being how long since you last opened at Piefed]. Those methods usually bring me a bunch of new content.

Hope your experience gets better :)

Edit: It didn't occur to me earlier, but are you on "Subscribed" feed or "All" feed? If you aren't on all, I would suggest switching to that until you have enough subscribed communities.

Thought it would be interesting to see the growth of the fediverse.

I noticed my comment votes were disappearing a couple weeks ago. Votes seem to last hours, maybe a day, before they are removed/disappearing. My post votes are unaffected.

In the last few days there was an issue with being able to vote on comments at all. That issue was fixed quickly (thank you), but it doesn't seem to have fixed the disappearing comment votes issue.

I figured someone would fix the issue soon, but now I'm thinking maybe people don't know about it.

Caveat: I haven't purchase or used another e-reader since I bought my first one (Kobo) ~15 years ago.

My Kobo still works and the battery still lasts like a week or longer before needing a recharge.

I don't think I've run into a book file it can't read, but I mostly stick to epubs and PDFs.

I'm pretty sure it has an online store, if that's important.

For your requirements, I have no idea if a planner has been implemented in the last decade, but I would suspect Kobos can read Libby library books (not sure what they are though). I believe my ~15 year old Kobo has a sync feature, but I don't use it. So that's probably available as well. For easy on the eyes, I'm assuming brightness settings, which Kobo had and I used on occasion (they may have adaptive sensing now).

I recall Kobo used to be marked as the "open" platform, so unless something has significantly changed, Kobo shouldn't lock you in or charge you a subscription fee.

Best of luck. Hope you are able to find an e-reader that works for you.

Edit: Just found this website with a bunch of Kobos compared. It looks like some have Dropbox sync and "Dark Mode" (I assume for easier on the eyes).

The audit covered every public-facing component of Mullvad’s online presence, including the website, the Tor-only Onion service, the rsync setup, and the internal content management system (CMS). Each of these elements was examined for common attack vectors, misconfigurations, or any signs of hidden data collection.

I believe checking the "internal content management system (CMS)" is what they are using to say there were no logs.

They linked a more detailed report in the article, but I didn't look at it. It may contain something different than my takeaway from the article.

I think it's because the price would be different in different regions.

I think it would be nice if they added an example region though: "50% off (ex. USA: $10 - > $5)".

Edit: added quotes.
