How it works (lemmy.zip)
submitted 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) by TacoEvent@lemmy.zip to c/backfiredwishes@lemmy.zip
  1. Post a wish, like for a genie (e.g. "I wish for a million dollars")
  2. People comment with ways it can backfire. (e.g. "Great! Here's 2700 Zimbabwean dollars.")
  3. Profit!

Bluesky: https://bsky.jazco.dev/stats Mastodon: https://fedidb.org/software/mastodon

There isn’t a 1:1 comparison. But the closest comparison looks like Mastodon is on a bit of a decline at 800k MAU. Bluesky is roughly 400k daily likers.

I understand that weather on TV can’t be hyperlocally accurate. But a weather app on my phone has my exact GPS coordinates. Why can’t it tell me exactly when a rain cloud will be passing over my location?

It’s gotten to the point where I just use precipitation maps to figure out my rain chances for the day.

The hourly forecast is mostly useless because it’s not a chance % but a % of the area that will be raining.

Signed up for Lemmy.zip because I thought it was a cool domain, but turned out to be one of the most well run small fedi servers I’ve ever had the pleasure of being a part of. Thanks for all that ya’ll do!

I've noticed that most commercially available glass screen protectors are too reflective, or too noticeable. It really takes away from the gorgeous Apple display.

Has anyone used a brand that mirrors the quality of finish that comes on the iPhone displays?

Just learned that a friend of mine always tips 10% on takeout. Ive never tipped on takeout unless they offered me a water/soda while I waited or something.

US biased, but I’m a little curious about other countries as well.

It’s a little hard to imagine for us Americans, but internationally WhatsApp has a thriving unofficial ecosystem of businesses operating solely out of the chat app.

I love to hate on Meta as much as the next guy on Lemmy, but this is probably one of the sounder business decisions Meta has made in awhile.

… is an extremely lackluster feat. I had originally read the skill description as being a main OR bonus attack and that felt really strong. After getting the feat I am now stuck with a meaningless skill that takes both actions for what is essentially just a walk + hit.

Am I missing something with this feat?

MUDs. Text based (generally RPG) games with incredibly immersive story telling, near infinite levels of character customization, and many even feature ways for players to build on the world itself.

I’m surprised it’s not more popular amongst D&D enthusiasts.

In its hey day, people spent thousands of dollars just to boost their characters on massive for-profit MUDs like those created by Iron Realms. But smaller MUDs like Ancient Anguish were just as quality.

Sadly they’re going extinct. Only a few MUDs are still actively maintained.

Image file format with excellent compression. It’s designed for web browsers, so what you’re probably running into is compatibility with other programs. It’s fairly easy to convert though to GIF or JPEG formats though.

This is the original post that went viral. People started posting beans memes to prove that it’s true for themselves.

No way to reset or go back other than by resetting the app. Screen is completely blank and white. Only the system menu bar on the very top is visible (clock, cell signal, wifi signal, and battery).

House Bill 2127, which takes effect on Sept. 1, will do away with local rules that require water breaks for construction workers. The cities of Austin and Dallas, for example, require 10-minute breaks every four hours. San Antonio officials had been considering a similar ordinance.

“We are human beings who need respect,” Martínez said. “We really need to be allowed to work without problems, without any barriers … Believe me, we are dying inside those buildings when they take away our water and our [break] time.”

The Bob Ross Mountain Dew video is incredibly eerie. Don’t think Bob Ross would have ever done anything like that.

I had made a post on a Beehaw community. I see comments in my inbox, but when I click “Posts” in my profile nothing shows up. To be clear, the beehaw post is my only post ever on this account.

This seems particularly problematic. Tomatoes are an Indian staple.
