I felt the same way until heavenward then I was hooked on the story. If you're still not having fun half way through heavenward then I feel like maybe the game isn't gonna be a good fit for you?
Like if all you want to do is craft then that's fine but if you can't bring yourself to do the story then dare I say it, consider a story skip purchase in the store. But I don't recommend it.
Part of my issue is that I actively wanted to get through the story to catch up to my friends. This meant I went in expecting not to enjoy it. I set myself up for disappointment from the start. When I stopped worrying about that, I started, funnily enough, enjoying it. Maybe that'll work for you? Idk
I haven't heard anyone mention Google password manager, which is the one I started using recently. I assume very few people trust it because... Google?
