They actually brought back the ~~Annoying~~ Adoring Fan from the Arena in Elder Scrolls IV. Same voice actor and everything.

Man, I bursted out laughing when they showed the fan. Laughed even harder when they said that it's possible to get rid of these traits - and aimed a shotgun at the fans back. :D

Back when they first mentioned the traits, they mentioned being able to remove them. And then it dawned upon some people that having living parents were from a trait.

If there was a option where an annoying sidekick could deliver your excess materials back to a storage like at your home I would put up with any annoying dialogue ๐Ÿ˜€

Yes! I wish more games had a companion/pet like Torchlight 1 and 2, where they could sell off your excess inventory while you're still adventuring.

It looks great. A little too great, even... I would temper my expectations, pretty much every space game has always advertised itself for having an incredible amount of content and things to do and it's never as good as advertised. They even say there's 1000 planets, but how many of those are just going to be empty randomly generated landscapes that feel copy pasted?

Well, I'm still excited for Starfield, but I'm very cautious about it.

It looks incredible but, damn, they've really put every single game genre in there. Non-zero chance it's all very shallow but the customisation options look dope. Chances are modders will do some stuff that's so cool I'll really want to play this thing.

Also looks like it'll destroy my 1060 and I probably don't use my PC enough to justify an upgrade. So we'll see.

This looks extremely promising. I'm trying not to get my hopes up after the recent string of disappointing launches... But dang. I get to build ships, explore the galaxy, build outposts, etc, etc. This really is shaping up to be No Man's Skyrim. I just hope they can stick the landing.

Cautious optimism is definitely the way to go with this one. The showcase here definitely looks good, but how many promises can they actually deliver on? I'm hoping most of the planets have some sort of content that doesn't include the classic Bethesda radiant fetch quests. The cities look promising, animal/wildlife designs look good, and the space battles remind me of Star Wars Battle front 2 (in a good way!)

The special preorder editions are slightly concerning, I'm hoping most people haven't forgotten the Fallout 'canvas bag' debacle and learned their lesson. Stop preordering games! It doesn't matter what the extra bonuses are if the game behind them is no good. Especially the 5 day early access that plays on your FOMO. Everyone's waited this long, you can wait a few extra days. I'm waiting until reviews are in and we see some release gameplay. Don't forget that Bethesda are also known for extremely buggy day 1 releases.

If it does actually turn out really good, this might be the final excuse I need to upgrade my 6 year old PC and give my GTX970 a nice retirement.

I'm extremely excited for this game. I was legitimately blown away by the deep dive today!

All I could think while watching this was how much it looks like No Man's Sky.

[-] Scooter411@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 year ago

Iโ€™ve been taking that tempered approach for a long time now - but this direct has me hyped big time. Even if only like 20 planets are actually fully-fledged and thought out worlds I think I can have a lot of fun with this.

[-] Mikelius@beehaw.org 1 points 1 year ago

I'm not going to lie, I was a big skeptic from day 1 when the only thing we got was a title of the game... Up until the latest gameplay direct. I'm actually now looking forward to this. Still cautiously, but I'll probably pick it up after watching to see if it plays on Linux through steam without any issues. My opinions on games tend to not match a lot of other reviewers in general so I'll probably go with what I feel on it at the time.

I want SO badly to be excited but I've been burned before by Bethesda so I will remain cautiously optimistic (a term I have been using way too much lately)

I want to see this running, from start up, on an average PC. I want to test the veracity of their claims. 1000+ planets?? How many of them are backwater throwaways not worth visiting? How many mods will I need to install to fix their issues.

Also, remember that this is STILL on Creative Engine 2, the same engine used by Skyrim TWELVE YEARS AGO.

[-] jasondotjson@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 year ago

For me the engine doesn't really matter as long as it plays good. Like Titanfall 2 uses the Source engine which may actually be older and I still really enjoyed my time with it. And the developers clearly have been making improvements to the engines over the last 12 years so it's not like this is using the same graphics renderer/animation skeletons/lighting/whatever as Skyrim.
