“If you could be shot” like it’s a privilege or something.

[-] JasonDJ@lemmy.zip 62 points 3 weeks ago

Idk about where you live, but it's a god damn right here in Americuh.

[-] Remember_the_tooth@lemmy.world 18 points 3 weeks ago

Ammo's not always cheap, though. A free shot to the head is a pretty good deal if you were going to pay for it anyway.

[-] JasonDJ@lemmy.zip 17 points 3 weeks ago

A free shot to the head? In this economy?

I'll take two.

“Incoming message from the big giant head!”

[-] Simulation6@sopuli.xyz 18 points 3 weeks ago

Hair. The hair on my head, near the ends, just to be exact. And from the side so the bullet does not then hit me.

[-] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 5 points 3 weeks ago

Hair on your feet is better because then you'll get less hearing damage.

What collection are these animations from? I have seen this around, but have never seen a name set to them.

[-] yermaw@sh.itjust.works 4 points 3 weeks ago

From a TV show called Archer. I'd recommend giving it a watch

[-] anugeshtu@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

I don't know. Isn't the average speed of a bullet (340 m/s) under the sound barrier (343 m/s)? If that's the case, wouldn't it only matter how far the gun is away from you?

[-] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 weeks ago

The further the muzzle is from my ears, the lower the noise level I'll experience. The projectile speed doesn't matter.

[-] anugeshtu@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

I hope you didn't experience that hard noise level too much yourself

[-] percent@infosec.pub 1 points 3 weeks ago

There are a LOT of different kinds of ammunition out there. I suppose if they get to choose what kind, they could opt for subsonic ammo (the kind that people usually use with suppressors). Otherwise, if it's randomly selected or something, then there's a pretty good chance that it'll break the sound barrier.

[-] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago

Haha lol just aim a few inches larboard for me

[-] tigeruppercut@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

I haven't run across that word since I read Lewis Carroll's poetry

He was thoughtful and grave—but the orders he gave
Were enough to bewilder a crew.
When he cried "Steer to starboard, but keep her head larboard!"
What on earth was the helmsman to do?

[-] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

I'm by the ocean. I'm thinking nautical

[-] tigeruppercut@lemmy.zip 4 points 3 weeks ago

I think there's a good reason they started saying port instead

And you know if you have to open the cupboard on the right or left to get it while yelling in a storm

[-] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

Well lah dih dah look at Mr two cupboards

[-] Foxfire@pawb.social 3 points 3 weeks ago

I was looking for this answer before I wrote the same thing. If a part of my body has to be shot, why wouldn't I be trying to rules lawyer my way out of serious injury? Take one long hair, tape it on something that can be safely shot through at effectively point blank range, feel nothing, success!

[-] FinjaminPoach@lemmy.world 11 points 3 weeks ago

It does kill you quickest, doesn't it? Head or heart.

[-] farmgineer@nord.pub 22 points 3 weeks ago

If you're shot in the heart, you get to think about what's going to happen for seconds until your blood pressure drops and you lose consciousness.

[-] justme@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 3 weeks ago

yeah, just heart is easier to miss.

Police snipers need the capability to hit the junction of the brain and brain stem at extended distances. Hitting and destroying this point at the back of the human head with a single bullet causes the person to instantly and completely collapse without reflex. Snipers call this spot "the apricot."

[-] dharmacurious@slrpnk.net 5 points 3 weeks ago

Yup. Boom. Done. No pain. To sleep, perchance to dream

[-] BitchPeas@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

Theres the rub. For in that sleep of death what dreams may come..

[-] silver_wings_of_morning@feddit.dk 6 points 3 weeks ago

I'm feeling somewhere in the arm.

[-] TheTechnician27@lemmy.world 8 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

100% somewhere in the arm (like assuming this isn't in some test lab where "the ear" can be consistently guaranteed).

  • Foot would likely be serious, lifelong pain when walking.
  • Leg is extremely dangerous for bleeding out. Like maybe if I could get immediate medical attention it wouldn't be terrible, but there are still better options. (Plus avoids an accidental shot to the knee.) (Edit: Forgot to mention chronic pain in the calf when walking.)
  • Abdomen is obviously not a first choice.
  • Head and neck are obviously going to be the worst, and I even mean that in the sense that a shot to the head isn't inherently some insta-kill. Lots of ways to hit the brain that completely debilitate you for life.
  • Hands seem like a great way to fuck up the nerves and have dexterity trouble for the rest of your life.

So arm it is, preferably right because it's further from the heart.

[-] applebusch 5 points 3 weeks ago

i think i would choose the calf. its similar to the arm in terms of potential bleeding out, but it doesnt effect your ability to work lots of jobs or use your hands. the really big arteries in your legs that risk bleeding out are for supplying your thigh muscles so they dont go all the way down to your calves. best case its a flesh wound and you recover fully. worst case you lose your foot and lower leg. theres always the risk of losing anything that gets shot, whether from damage or infection, and id rather lose part of a leg than anything else.

[-] TheTechnician27@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Honestly super fair re: bleeding out. I was considering the thigh there and forgot to mention my problem specifically with the calf, which would be chronic pain. I know that comes with getting shot anywhere and especially in the limbs (sort of Sophie's choice if you want to gamble on the distal or proximal for the arms), but I figure the problem for me wouldn't be potentially losing the leg as much as it would be feeling pain every time I walk due to the pressure. If anything, the shin protecting the tibial nerve makes it seem like you wouldn't be all that likely to lose sensation.

[-] 666dollarfootlong@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

I feel like It would be easier to exercise with both feet intact and with a prosthetic arm. I do don't want to loose (or hinder) my ability to walk, to go

[-] sundray@lemmus.org 5 points 3 weeks ago

I'm not seeing the butt cheek on here :(

[-] CyberTheProtogen@lemmy.zip 3 points 3 weeks ago

Wait but isn’t the gut a pretty okay place?

[-] TheTechnician27@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

The gut is notoriously one of the most painful places you can get shot. It's fairly "safe" overall with antibiotics and prompt medical intervention, although it would carry a higher risk of infection. Plus hitting a kidney seems like a pretty severe complication. So I think I'd rather take the arm.

Edit: Plus possibility of hitting the spine. oof, ouch, owie

[-] wizardbeard@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 3 weeks ago

Lol no. Very no. Getting gut shot is a wonderful way to die slowly and in agony.

[-] CyberTheProtogen@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 weeks ago

Huh. I’ve heard you can lose a lot of blood in a… oh wait he meant that as a bad thing. Oops.

[-] Proprietary_Blend@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago

I'm guessing very close to head, but right about the top of an ear.

[-] psx_crab@lemmy.zip 4 points 3 weeks ago

Obviously i'd choose my tail.
