Doing OK. Haven't landed on my feet yet, career wise, after quitting the Academy. But wow. My stress is way down. Joy way up. Time in the present with my family also way up. Working on my little slice of substack and podcasting has been more fun than money, which is fine for me at the moment.

I an lucky to have saved and have a supporting partner in all of this. So let me be clear that a reset is possible only because of that.

Today I learned that our modern concept of laziness comes from religion and the slave trade. That was a eye opener

How and where from? I'm curious!

Finally got permabanned from reddit. Probably this is a good thing; that site was a time waste.

Fourteen years ago today I went on the first date with my now wife, I'd say it's going pretty well.

Boo to code enforcement waiting to tell us and our contractor that we need to file an appeal for a variance to move forward with our renovation though.

You know what the main difference between a girlfriend and a wife is? You remember the precise day you met your wife with the sizzling sear of a brand.

(I'd not brand my wife until later.)

I'm writing more and reading more, yet horrified of what to do with the later half of my life. So mixed bag mentally this week. However, I'm back with a great personal trainer and gym, mountain biking again (oh wow it's been a hot minute), and enjoying cedar trees and mountains. So pretty happy with the physical fitness in these surroundings. I do miss cycling everywhere though...doing it in truck-land is a bit harrowing.

Did well at a casual pinball league night last night, working on a lot of self hosting stuff, and trying to find time to design some posters to put up around town for a socialist U.S. Senate candidate and connect with more like-minded folks in my area.

Pollen season has started so trying to navigate that while enjoying the weather. Hoping to get out for some exercise this weekend.

I graduated, so I've been decompressing and occasionally looking at jobs when I see something on an app. Hoping my screwed up college time perception from gets fixed soon—I hate knowing what's on my schedule but not knowing what today is. It's so discombobulating.

Got another interview coming up. Feel mixed on returning to family, but it's not like my college town was gonna be my forever home... It hurts to close a chapter. I'm worried I'll return to old bad habits when I live with fam. Trying to remind myself that I'm different now.

It appears I'm getting a new fridge. Which is helpful when trying not to spend $15 per day on food. Look at me, squandering my inheritance on dentures and avoiding paying for prepared food.

Just taking stock of what is wonderful and special about life, work, and my relationships while we move into summer.

I spent weekend free time organizing and spring cleaning, finally tacklinga few things I've put off for months. It was time, and I had incredible help from my partner.

Two of my closest friends went through fundamental life changes recently, and I want to continue to be there for both of them... one whose father passed after a years long battle with Parkinson's, and another, who is a victim of some severe DV. While the pieces are picked up and rearranged, both have come to a crossroads, and I'm so lucky to be there to see the positive transformation for them. I so desperately want to be a source of help and affirmation, and just want to do a good job. They're both far enough away that it would be a significant cost to see each of them in person, so I have to be support at a distance, which is hard cause I want to hug them both and cry with them. I'm also grateful that I have the time, energy, and mental state to be there for them.

Although work is chaotic, it's also weirdly calm. This feels like the time for fundamental shifts, and I'm continuing to maintain radical hope that positive energy and community is growing everywhere.

Beehaw continues to be a source of encouragement and community! Thank you all! Sending you positivity as you move through your week.

What a wonderful sentiment! Your friends are lucky to have someone supportive in their lives, even from a distance—it's an honor to be able to provide that to loved ones (but also sometimes feels like a big challenge to live up to).

Stressful. Had a really minor car accident, door caved in on my baby. My sweet baby hatchback. Work stress. Family medical stuff. Ai ai ai.

[-] remington@beehaw.org 4 points 3 weeks ago

Hang in there. Things will get better.

Going pretty good. Played Pokepia all day, that was nice and I'm off. Been working a lot. Usual stuff.

I'm still working on this idea that I can directly bite into things with my front teeth. You never forget how to ride a bicycle, but you can forget how to chew because of pain. And then, once I was bedentured, I hung out with a friend who took three bags of trash away. And that was just Monday.
