[-] zigmus64@lemmy.world 5 points 3 months ago

That’s what it’s good for!

the corruption has reached such a high level of volume and frequency now that americans dont even care any more. its now perfectly fine to spend tax dollars on steak and lobster. cant pay your rent or car loan or mortgage ? from the other side of the world you look like you are ruled by the mafia and 40% of you think its great.

[-] dohpaz42@lemmy.world 44 points 3 months ago

We care. We just can’t do anything about it. So we dissociate to survive.

[-] HasturInYellow@lemmy.world 4 points 3 months ago

Mayhaps we could gather in small secret groups and decide which building look especially cold this winter. Maybe we could help warm them up.

[-] johan@feddit.nl 4 points 3 months ago

Yes as we know that's how tyrants have been overthrown throughout history, by all getting together and giving up.

[-] dohpaz42@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago

Your lack of mental health awareness is disturbing, and dangerous. Do better.

[-] johan@feddit.nl 1 points 2 months ago

I understand you might look at it from your personal point of view, but you gotta be able to take a step back too.

The most powerful country in the world is sliding into fascism, we are months away from from perhaps the most consequential election in US history and the response from you is "nothing can be done, and thinking about it too much is bad for my mental health".

Of course I'm simplifying and I definitely empathise with the many Americans who are suffering and struggling, but if you think that my comment is "dangerous" then surely so is your defeatist message?

So much can still be done, and it's vitally important to keep caring and try and protect democracy and rule of law. Who is the "we" you are talking about? Because surely it's far from all Americans.

[-] K9life@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

This, right here, you nailed it

[-] thejoker954@lemmy.world 8 points 3 months ago

We probably be better off with the Mafia in charge.

[-] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 3 points 3 months ago

the mafia is in charge.

Honestly feeding military workers surf & turf once a year isn’t a problem for me. I wish they would do it every year they have surplus budget.

[-] CubitOom@infosec.pub 20 points 3 months ago

They do it before they send them to war.

[-] PyroNeurosis 10 points 3 months ago

Or extend deployments. The MoraleMeal^TM^ is a flexible all-in-one solution to fixing attitudea.

The expense of feeding the troops a fancy meal was a fraction of the cost of one of the hundreds of missiles they've used so far in Iran. It's just about the least objectionable line item in the entire military budget right now.

[-] Muffi@programming.dev 7 points 3 months ago

It's cute that you think actual military workers got some of this surf & turf splurge. It was only for the suits on the very top - barely military.

[-] somethingsnappy@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

Lol. Surplus budget. It isn't the late 1990s.

[-] Brkdncr@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

That’s what was in the article.

[-] night_petal@piefed.social 9 points 3 months ago

I may be misreading the wording used in the article, but to me it reads like they were getting orders of doughnuts at $600 each somehow. Were they just getting massive amounts of fancy doughnuts per order ?

[-] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 7 points 3 months ago

This is probably even worse than what triggered the French revolution, but the times are different.

[-] undefined@lemmy.hogru.ch 7 points 3 months ago

Big surprise they’re heavy meat eaters. If they’re not fucking up the planet through politics they’re doing so with their diets.

[-] Jaysyn@lemmy.world 5 points 3 months ago

$26k in sushi prep tables.

[-] spookedintownsville@lemmy.world 4 points 3 months ago

This whole admin is the type to go get drunk off our money.

[-] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 months ago

Careful Pete, you can get fat on that diet.

[-] TwinTitans@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago
