Amnesty International finds immigrants at Florida facility were shackled and left outside in metal cage for up to a day

Detainees at the notorious Florida immigration jail known as “Alligator Alcatraz” were shackled inside a 2ft high metal cage and left outside without water for up to a day at a time, a shocking report published Thursday by Amnesty International alleges.

The human rights group said migrants held at the state-run Everglades facility, and at Miami’s Krome immigration processing center operated by a private company on behalf of the Trump administration, continue to be exposed to “cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment” rising in some cases to torture.

The cage, known to detainees as “the box”, is used by guards for the arbitrary punishment of trivial or non-existent offenses, according to the report compiled from interviews with detainees and advocacy groups, and a site visit to Krome made by Amnesty workers in September.

How many people died there? How many bodies are buried or have been fed to the gators? It was a concentration camp. A test run to see what they could get away with.

At least a full 2/3 of the people that were supposed to be there when it was shut down a couple months ago (before it reopened) can't be accounted for.

Yeah.

I thought it was supposed to be closed at one point, it wouldn't surprise me to learn that never happened but I'm still not fully clear on its status. The article talks about it in present tense, but even the comments here are talking about it in past tense? Are other people also thinking it's closed? Is it actually still open? What's the deal?

It was told to close for environmental reasons, but within a couple weeks that ruling was blocked by a federal judge. The horrors continue and they are using the confusion as cover.

"New report?"

That's always been the case.
