Republicans and the White House face a deadline after refusing to negotiate with Democrats on impending Obamacare premium hikes

Just minutes before Donald Trump was set to unveil a plan to avert a massive hike for Obamacare health plans on Monday afternoon the event was suddenly pulled – reportedly because of widespread Republican unease on the Hill.

On CNN, anchor Jessica Dean was forced to interrupt herself as she asked a question of a health expert to announce some breaking news as it came into her ear – that the event had been abruptly postponed.

Federal subsidies passed under the Biden-era Inflation Reduction Act are set to expire at the end of the calendar year, and many Americans are already receiving notice that the monthly cost of their health care plans could jump by hundreds or even thousands of dollars for larger plans.

Anybody else remember when a couple of less than intelligent Democrats were convinced to vote to reopen the government because Republicans said they'd be willing to "discuss keeping" Obamacare, but at a later date if they voted now to reopen? Where's all that good faith at now, you chumps? Fuck you, Fetterman.

[-] Randomgal@lemmy.ca 2 points 6 days ago

They all planned it together. They were the fall guys.

[-] demizerone@lemmy.world 1 points 6 days ago

And my Senator Shaheen

[-] jacksilver@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago

Their arguement was that the Republicans would then "own" the increase, which does seem to be playing out that way.

Personally I think folding was a stupid move, but I guess time will tell.

[-] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 3 points 6 days ago

The Republicans would have owned it if they continued doing nothing.

[-] Themosthighstrange@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

Yes, keep blaming one Democrat instead of all republicans

[-] camdog2000@ttrpg.network 17 points 1 week ago

Why do you say instead?

Blaming democrats doesn't mean we're absolving republicans.

I will blame anyone who does stupid shit. Remember Krysten Sinema, she was a democrat. There's no Democrats or republicans, it's us or them, the rich and the people who enable the rich. Sure it seems the democrats tend to lean in more of what I want, but if they fuck up we replace them. Non of that hive mind cult bulshit.

I'm sure the man they all obey over their oaths of office tried really, really hard to keep the subsidies, but he was just unable to overcome his sycophantic lackeys

[-] ynthrepic@lemmy.world 16 points 1 week ago

The more Republican infighting the better for American democracy.

Concepts of a plan at work here

[-] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 9 points 1 week ago

Well that didn't take long. Trump is nothing more than Lucy holding the football and we're all Charlie Brown.

[-] jacksilver@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago

I didn't think anyone expected the Republicans to do anything about the subsidies, that's why everyone was upset with democrats capitulated.
