Helmet tech has been advancing rather quickly of late. We’ve seen helmets that promise 100% blind-spot elimination, others that filter the air you breathe in, and even the likes of Sena and Cardo jumping in with their respective “smart” helmets.

I rode motorcycles for several years and I was stunned to learn no one makes a helmet with some sort of integrated technology in the visor that puts a black spot over where the sun is, so you aren't completely blind when driving in the morning.

Anything that does that will likely be an extremely over-engineered and expensive solution for the problem. I don't even think I've seen a clear screen capable of blocking light with that type of granularity.

I rode for years, and was surprised at the lack of visors that incorporate multiple filters like this; requiring users to carry a separate visor or sunglasses, and stopping to manually change them.

eg

Even helmets with rear view mirrors are exceedingly rare.

My current helmet has an internal sun visor I can drop down in front of my eyes with a lever on the outside of the helmet. My previous one had a photo chromatic lens that would change colors based on how much light it was encountering. Both work(ed) great but I prefer the internal sun visor.

I picked up a helmet like this around 5-7 years ago. Absolute shit. Does not block anywhere near enough light to be useful and battery doesn't last.

Only thing that works well is the sun visor you can lower when needed and even that doesn't work as well as dedicated shaded visor, but that's a bitch to swap.

Is that some kind of PDLC film?

It's a little sad that we need to actually say this, but:

Don't be an asshole or you will be permanently banned.

Respectful debate is totally OK, criticizing a product is fine, but being verbally abusive will not be tolerated.

Focus on discussing the idea, not attacking the person.
