No great revelation here, I know. I doubt any of them are ex-pats.

I wonder what you call someone who uses their business to promote and spread foreign propaganda?

[-] SkybreakerEngineer@lemmy.world 52 points 1 week ago

Unregistered Foreign Agent in the before time. Mr Secretary now

Musk really is thick as shit.

[-] spaghettiwestern@sh.itjust.works 14 points 1 week ago

Musk is an unabashed traitor.

I can't believe how many people are JUST NOW fucking piecing this together... that when you make a system that provides small monetary rewards for creating engagement you have basically ensured a lock-step workforce who you never need to issue commands to, pay directly, or manage in any way.

Of COURSE every blue-check spreading divisive propaganda is someone in a country where $10.00 USD a month will help keep you alive and the potential for earning a grand for making enough Americans mad will change your whole life. We got people doing that shit for free.

The anonymity of the internet is a massive double-edged sword, and we need to understand that there's context to when anonymity is a benefit or not.

Just wait 'til everyone learns who's been using Facebook, Reddit and Youtube all this time as well. There's a reason why so much of the shit you see online seems so disconnected from what reality is like between normal Americans. Our entire Nation is being sabotaged by an army of people who don't have stake in our future.

Agree. But a question: As someone who used Twitter for 5 minutes (and then stopped because I realized it was making me too angry), what is the mechanism of monetizing a Twitter account? Kickbacks for getting people to click links (aka advertising)?

[-] ameancow@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

Basically retweets and follower quantity offer a monetary payout kind of like Youtube.

Thank you! I had no idea about most of that.

[-] ameancow@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Spread the word. People need to know.

I'm convinced there are two appropriate ways of using the internet:

  1. Interacting with people that you personally know and have spent time with in real space. This is just keeping in touch, and might even be used to visit with them in real space in the future.

  2. Interacting with strangers, but only under the assumption that they are not given permission to meaningfully impact your emotional or mental state. If they say something stupid or hurtful, it must be allowed to roll off of you, because they might be a troll actively trying to harm you, or they might be an AI programmed to harm you. Neither is worth allowing to get under one's skin, or to even inflate one's sense of self, either. One wouldn't get meaningfully pissed at a video game NPC for being mean, or proud of oneself for them liking you.

Online relationships may supplement ones that are based in the real world, but allowing them to act as if they are real relationships is like giving bees aspartame and wondering why the hive is all fucked up.

To the surprise of only the brain dead magas. It's the same on reddit, clear as day.

[-] watson@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago

Shocking, no one…

[-] madjo@feddit.nl 8 points 1 week ago

They're now claiming that they had issues with a decent way to determine location. All to hide the fact that the RedHatted HatRed is astroturfed from outside forces...

[-] Juice@midwest.social 5 points 1 week ago

Michael Parenti famously said, "Imperialism is when the poor people from a rich country, pay the rich people from a poor country."

So I guess techno-nationalism is something like: when the rich people from a rich country pay the poor people from a poor country to trick the middle class of a rich country into hating everyone from every country

[-] GenosseFlosse@feddit.org 5 points 1 week ago

Don't need location service for that, just check if the account is mostly active during st. Petersburg business hours, and inactive on Russian public holidays.

[-] Quexotic@infosec.pub 3 points 1 week ago

It doesn't shock me at all that they're just one big psy-op. We already know by statistical analysis that the vote was tampered with. Why wouldn't they be trying to wag the dog as well?

[-] fartographer@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Diz??? Johnny, she's dying!

I have no clue how I missed this comment, but your choice to use this frame is fucking hilarious with that comment. Well done.

Also, I just resurrected your thread like Johnny after he's KIA and lost his girlfriend to Austin from Days of our Lives.

I'm glad you saw it now. :) Cheers!
