IIRC chickens were a relatively modern addition to human agriculture. For actual caveman livestock you should be keeping snails.
Fun fact: archaeological evidence of snail farming (heliciculture) dates back to the Mesolithic period, around 10,000 years ago! The Romans later industrialized it and built special enclosures called cochlearia where they'd fatten snails on milk and spelt flour before eating them.
I do like saltwater snails. Don't know about the French wineyard type, but I guess they're OK as well.
Also be a nice pet with some emotional intelligence & could bring a smile on my face just looking at them running around all silly.
Chickens are awesome. But they don't ged rid of ticks, they can get mites, and they attract hawks, skunks, raccoons, and foxes.
Guinea hens eat ticks tho, and are also very entertaining. And a little bigger, hold off against some predators.
An attack cassowary is a great addition to any domestic fowl pen. Make the egg laying spots accessible from outside containment, cassowary care not for peace with humans.
I love the idea of an Attack Cassowary. Full on Dinosaur.
They're lovely creatures in their own way, I try to only eat those who had a good life, with thanks for the sacrifice. Maybe I'll be a vegan one day, currently it's not sustainable yet for me.
Who said we didn't domesticate dinosaurs
