The GNOME Project is a free and open source desktop and computing platform for open platforms like Linux that strives to be an easy and elegant way to use your computer. GNOME software is developed openly and ethically by both individual contributors and corporate partners, and is distributed under the GNU General Public License.
I just saw this on phoronix, it's pretty vague, but it's what goals are, a destination you want to reach. What's important is that they have goals in mind and that they develop a clear plan to achieve them
Also, note to self: to preserve mental sanity, never check the comments on phoronix when the article mentions GNOME, Wayland, Flatpak or SystemD.
