Hi all, I'll keep t. is short. I've got a DB9 alloy build that I love. It uses the Aves Rails MAC11 upper. I've had issues with light strikes, failure to seat the round when cycling, and finally had my last straw. I noticed my firing pin was sticking. I took it into my LGS and they found a metal burr on the pin as well a small piece of the actual bolt which had sheered off. They had the grind down the firing pin.
I read through here and found some other posts about Aves Rails QC being questionable. They apparently don't chamfer the seating for the round, which is partly responsible for the failure to properly cycle.
Lesson learned - I've relegated my Aves Rails MAC11 upper to cheap builds. I ordered a Velocity Firearms upper for my db9.
TL;DR: Avoid Aves Rails for MAC11 uppers. Their QC is trash.

in a community built around diy guns, it's amazing to me how low people's bar is for troubleshooting around here, or awareness of how this stuff works. the mac uppers were never designed to take the beating that ar hammer's put on them. It causes issues with all of them.

From their website:
What would you propose I do? Because making condescending remarks with no solution is pretty useless.

the pin will still need replacing more frequently, because in use with an ar fcg, it's under far more stress than in the original design. In addition, there's no way of knowing what might be happening in your lower to cause slight changes in geometry that are adding to the wear. the extraction issues, while valid, could have been brought to their attention. You came here to disparage the maker, which when we're such a small community, you could have gone straight to them to address it. I've got no tie to aves, but man, seeing the posts from people lately about different vendor complaints just sucks. You didn't come here for a solution, you already relegated it to secondary use. You came here to complain. That's why you got condescension.

So you think it's reasonable that the pin needs to be replaced w/ <200 rounds through it?

Dude is being kind of a tool don’t mind him lol. Sounds like you found what the problem was.

These vendors aren't megacorps or some abstract thing, they're people in the community. Without feedback in helpful ways, they don't know what's going on. AVES in particular has shown they're willing to take feedback and work through development hurdles. People here rely on them to get these parts and kits, but then turn around and shit on the vendors at the first opportunity. It's just stupid to handle this stuff like whiny children. It's not like there's millions to be made in all of this, they're not doing it because they want to make bank.
